Copilot

Built @ WeWork

Copilot is a QAQC tool for designers. It relies on a cloud database of rules, from which WeWork’s Spaces & Standards Guide is generated.

To incentivize staff to solve problems, points were awarded for fixing issues found.

The most difficult problem posed to the team was the lack of centralized, managed assets used in BIM modelling. Chairs, tables, lights and everything else you could think of were often downloaded from the internet instead of sourced from a managed collection on a server. In short - we had no idea what assets our users were using, and lost that valuable dimension in our ability to QA models.

To resolve this, we created a system called Aliasing, which allowed users to tie their custom assets to an element type in a rule. In turn, the location and nature of the asset is stored on the cloud as an entry which is then validated by Standards Group personnel. If they think the asset is a valid proxy of the element in a rule, they can approve of it. If the disapprove of it, then the use of that asset is regarded as a mistake. This system can also be used to automatically replace incorrectly used assets with their correct counterparts.
